These classic Shuron Ronsir black over gold combination frames are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription or sunglass lenses. The frames shown in the photos are size 48-22, marked ''48 22'' on the bridge, ''48'' on the frame and ''SHURON USA RONSIR 5 3/4'' on the temples. Other size frames are marked the same way, each according to their sizes. The temples shown are the Shuron ''Taper'' style, but please note that there are several other styles of temples available, too!
These are brand new, though made pretty much just like they've made them back since the 1950s and I have to tell you, they really are well-made glasses. (This is from someone who handles mostly vintage frames from the golden age of American craftsmanship, so I really have seen some of the best frames ever made, or at least I like to think so!) The finish on the new Ronsir frames is always well-done, the screws are cooperative and the plastic is tough stuff. They do a good job on the little details, too, no dangling plastic machine fragments or big solder blobs I sometimes see on contemporary frames. So, since these are brand new, is anything different from the Shuron Ronsir of yesteryear? The nose pads changed from bakelite / mother of pearl back in the late Forties, so they've been using clear ones for a long time. The nose pad fittings were recently changed, making it much simpler to find replacement pads. Besides those minor differences, they really are pretty much the same as they've always been! Great glasses, top notch!
Temples are measured to their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.
TEMPLES: In the black with gold, I stock the standard adult men's temple length of 5 3/4 inches (145 mm) and 6 inches (150 mm) in both the ''Taper'' and the ''Slipper'' styles shown below. All the other sizes are available promptly. The Slipper style is associated with earlier models of the Ronsir and other makers also used the same style early on in the history of combination frames. The Taper style came just a little later. There are also cable temples, one called the ''Relaxo'' that's similar in shape to the ''Slipper'' and adds $32 to the price. There's also an all-metal cable temple that fits the Ronsir called the Aztec cable and for those instead of the usual plastic temples it's an added $36. The photos do show them in silver, but for gold rim frames, the Aztec comes in gold to match the rims and bridge.
COLORS: Ronsirs come in other colors, too: black, tortoise, Cordova (a dark red), mocha and other wood grained briar patterns so popular during the 1950s: grey briar and black briar. These are true classics, brand new, mint condition. They make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
If you have any questions about frame size, color or temples or any other questions at all, please don't hesitate to email. I try to answer all questions promptly.
