Payment Methods

CREDIT CARD: Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are all accepted for US customers and some international locations, too.  Credit card payments are processed by PayPal, but a PayPal account is not required for US customers.

To use a credit card please be sure to look for ''Use your credit card or bank account (where available) Continue '' when directed to the payment page, operated by PayPal.  Click here to see an image of the payment page and the two choices you'll have.  PayPal sometimes asks if you're really sure you don't want to use a PayPal account. That screen can be tricky... it looks like this. Note that the PayPal screen ''look'' is changed from time to time, but the links you're seeking will be essentially the same. Sometimes, Health Savings Account (HSA) cards will not be accepted, so using a personal card and reimbursing is advised in those circumstances. A detailed paid invoice is provided that may be printed for your records.

PAY PAL: PayPal purchases using a PayPal balance or with your bank account or a credit card selected as the payment source will ship without delay, often the following day and sometimes even the same day! International orders often work best paid using PayPal.

BY MAIL: Mailed payment may be made by arrangement and only for USA orders. Only United States Postal Service (USPS - from a Post Office) Money Orders are accepted. Sorry, but checks are not accepted. Please email to make arrangements for mailed payment. One-of-a-kind items will be held for up to 10 days while awaiting payment. Purchases by mailed payment are not eligible for refund, only for exchange and only as otherwise covered by the Attic return policy.

Shipping and Shipping Insurance

For sample shipping rates, estimated transit times and detailed information on US and international shipping, please see the Attic Shipping page. To keep shipping costs low, we do not automatically insure your package, but you may purchase insurance for your shipment, or, for international shipments, please select the Express International choice for insured shipping. The Optometrist Attic does not cover lost or damaged items, but we do pack extremely well and have had no damage to any shipments to date. (Many thousands of packages and counting!)  Click here for shipping insurance details and selection.

Non-stock/Special-Order, Back-Order Shipping

Non-stock items/special-order items, items not kept in stock and generally marked with an asterisk (*) or arranged by email correspondence, will ship on the posted timeframes listed for those pieces. This is usually within 4 to 10 business days for US items. If your order includes both non-stock/special-order and in-stock items, please allow the posted non-stock timeframe for your order to be filled completely and then ship or please email in advance of ordering to make arrangements for multiple shipments.

Timeframes for back-ordered items or stock items that are out-of-stock vary depending upon the circumstance, but most out-of-stock ''stock'' items will ship within 10 business days of your order. Orders for multiples of the same item may require additional days. If your order includes both back-order and in-stock items, I'll email to make arrangements. Please note that secondary shipments will be sent USPS First Class unless other arrangements are made.

Quotes

Many frames we offer are custom-configured on request, so any quotes are honored for and quoted items held for 5 days unless arranged otherwise. Items are held 10 days while awaiting mailed USPS money order payment.

Disclaimers

We measure all our frames carefully and get within 1/16 inch, but the MEASUREMENTS ARE ALL APPROXIMATE, UNLESS STATED AS MARKED ON THE FRAME. I do try to keep up with variations in the contemporary frames, but measurements can and do vary slightly depending upon frame adjustment, changes in manufacturer production processes and suppliers.

Unless identified as ''unused vintage stock", "new old stock", ''new'' or ''brand new'' expect that a frame was once worn and has now been cleaned and restored.

Some new frames come with a case from the manufacturer and sometimes a cleaning cloth and display box. If a case, cleaning cloth or display box are not pictured or mentioned on the item page, the frame purchase does not include a case.

Brand new, contemporary frames carry the manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. For assistance handling a warranty issue or for details on your manufacturer's warranty, please feel free to email, providing details regarding the issue, your Attic invoice number and your request for warranty coverage. Vintage frames used or unused do not carry any warranty and are sold ''AS-IS'', but they are covered by the Optometrist Attic return policy.

All wire frames, metal frames and metal parts should be assumed to contain some nickel in the alloy unless specifically listed otherwise.

Frame material colors (such as, but not limited to: ''tortoise'', ''havana'', ''briar'', ''demi'', ''wood'', ''smoke'', ''amber'', etcetera) do vary from frame to frame and may not appear precisely as they do on your computer screen in the photographs, depending upon that particular frame, your computer screen display of the digital images and lighting in your location. Even gold and silver finishes will vary and may not appear as they do on your computer screen. Many frames are made from Zyl, which is cellulose acetate, a plastic made from wood fibers and there is always some variation in the coloration of this material. Because of variations in frame materials from frame to frame and variations in computer displays of digital photography, THERE IS NO WARRANTY, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, OF THE EXACT APPEARANCE OF FRAME MATERIAL COLOR, SHADE OR PATTERN.

Moving lenses from the frame they were made to fit to another frame of the same model and size may not be successful due to variations in lens circumference between production runs. Sometimes it works, but there is no guarantee old lenses will fit in a new frame.

Some fine-tuning and adjustment is typically required for any temple installation.

All policies and terms of sale listed on this page are subject to change without notice. Policies in force at the time of purchase will be honored.

Returns, Exchanges, Cancellations, Refunds

Most Attic purchases are eligible for return. Comparing frame measurements and use of ''Virtual Fit'' are encouraged to help find a good match. For more about fitting, please see the Attic Sizing page

Return, exchange and refund details are described here.

RETURN / EXCHANGE PROCESS
(1) You must email to make arrangements for returning/exchanging an item. In your email, please be sure to include your name, your invoice number, found in your order confirmation and shipment confirmation emails and, if more than one piece was purchased, what item you wish to return.
(2) You will receive a prompt response with a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. In the unlikely event your email is lost in transit, please do try again or contact me at my alternate email address listed
below. I respond to many exchange/return requests in under one hour, most within two hours and always in less than twenty-four hours.
(3) This RMA number must be displayed on the shipping label of your return package for acceptance. (This helps keep track of your item and your refund. Packages without a RMA number displayed are not accepted. Your RMA number is unique and may not be used on any other Attic return packages.)

ITEM CONDITION, TIMING AND REFUND AMOUNT
(4) Returned items must be clean and in the same condition as originally shipped to you, with any demo lenses still in the frames and with all accessories such as frame envelopes, temple sleeves, plastic bags, cleaning cloths, cases, tags still attached, etcetera.
(5) Purchases are refunded/credited less shipping, handling, any shipping insurance and a ten percent restocking charge, with the following exceptions:
 (A) There is not any restocking charge for your first exchange of one regularly stocked item, which is an item or item size that is not marked with the special order asterisk symbol (*) or is not ordered by special arrangement, (please note that exchanges do not include re-shipping and item must be of equal or greater value);
 (B) Non-stock/special order items, generally marked with the asterisk symbol (*) on the product page and the invoice or items ordered by special arrangement are refunded (or credited for exchange) less shipping, handling, any shipping insurance and a fifteen percent restocking charge;
 (C) Returned items arriving back more than fourteen days after the date originally shipped from the Attic are refunded (or credited for exchange) less shipping, handling, any shipping insurance and a fifteen percent restocking charge;
 (D) Customized items, custom-made items and custom work, such as, but not limited to, restorations, rim coverings, installed cable end conversions and lenses are not eligible for refund or exchange.
 (E) Please note that once lenses are installed in the frames, they are no longer eligible for return because lens installation invariably results in wear and tear on the frames. Items returned that are not in the same condition as shipped may be charged an additional restocking charge or cleaning charge.  This cannot be determined until the item is received and inspected, but the need for an added charge for return cleaning or damage is very unusual in our experience. Though rarely an issue, items returned/exchanged smelling strongly of smoke are charged $8 above any restocking due for cleaning.
(6) Items are eligible for return and/or exchange as described above until thirty (30) days after the date your item was shipped to you from the Attic, after which items are no longer eligible for return or exchange.
(7) Refunds as outlined above are issued within ten days of receipt in the Attic or, if an exchange/refund decision is pending, within ten days of being informed of the decision to return the item for refund. Refunds can only be issued back to the original payment source. Please note that refunds for orders placed from outside the USA may have variations from the original amount due to changes in exchange rates.
(8) Exchange merchandise credits as described above are kept active for up to 175 days from the date of the original purchase, after which time they will be refunded back to the original payment source if not redeemed for merchandise using the Attic exchange process.

CANCELLATIONS
(9) Orders may be cancelled prior to shipment by request. The following policies also apply to partial order cancellations. Cancellation requests received after 12:00 p.m. USA Central Time on the date of shipment may not be in time and your item may ship and therefore will not be eligible for a cancellation refund.
 (A) Cancellation refunds for USA orders will be minus a cancellation fee of $2.00, four percent, or per 9D below, whichever amount is greater.
 (B) Cancellations for international orders, including orders placed from outside the US addressed to a shipping agency or other US address, will be minus a cancellation fee of $4.00, six percent, or per 9D below, whichever amount is greater. Please note that refunds for orders placed from outside the USA may have variations from the original amount due to changes in exchange rates.
 (C) Cancellation of stock items will be refunded within ten days of the request, often much sooner.
 (D) Cancellation requests for non-stock/special order items submitted more than 24 hours after the order was placed will be refunded following the non-stock/special order refund guidelines outlined in 5B above.

Grading Terminology

We use the following terms for grading condition of our frames:

MINT:   New condition, as from the production facility. Some frames listed as mint condition are brand new and are generally indicated as such. Frames that are not brand new or newly minted might have lenses, but will have no indications of wear. May have minimal adjustment marks from fitting lenses, but these marks will be limited to top-quality professional work, no dents, gouges or marring, etcetera.

REALLY EXCELLENT:   Near-mint condition. Small wear indications such as adjustment markings, light surface scratches. If lenses, there may be cleaning indications, but no visible scratches or gouges.

EXCELLENT:   Frame may have minor wear indications such as: adjustment markings, light surface scratching or rubbed areas, light finish wear in areas not visible when worn. Lenses may have small, shallow visible scratches that do not interfere with vision and are not visible except upon close inspection.

VERY GOOD:   Frame may have wear indications such as: adjustment markings, surface scratching or rubbed areas, areas of finish wear, surface crazing, small spots of discoloration. Some areas of a very good frame may be pristine while others may have wear. Lenses may have visible scratches that do not interfere with vision.

GOOD:   The Optometrist Attic generally does not offer frames in good condition or below.

Frame may have wear similar to very good frame, but will have an area of significant wear such as finish wear showing base material over a large area, a frozen screw, a notable repair, heavy crazing or non-structural cracks, bite marks.

FAIR:   The Optometrist Attic generally does not offer frames in  fair condition.

About the Optometrist Attic

I'm a vintage and classic frames collector and wearer from way back. I love the old frames and wanted to share the joy of classic glasses. I started online on eBay back in 2005 and the Attic site opened in 2006. Thank you to all my long-time customers!

Many frames we've offered are unused vintage stock. Frames that have been fitted for lenses are cleaned ultrasonically, detailed, checked for issues of any kind and polished. Thorough cleaning means I find flaws and my listings note whatever I find. We handle more and more brand new classic frames, mostly made by the same original manufacturers, and those are noted as brand new on their item pages.

Feel free to email with any questions. I love the classic glasses.
