CLASSIC VINTAGE REDWOOD GOLD WHITNEY COMBINATIONS
|
|
| These classic G-man Malcolm X vintage redwood gold eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''WHITNEY 1/10 12K G.F. 22'', the frame is marked ''44'' and the arms read ''5 3/4 ALUM WHITNEY MADE IN U.S.A.''.
The lower half of the frames and the bridge are gold-filled, a nice feature. |

These are remarkably cool combination frames by Whitney, probably from the late 1950s. They're unused, never had lenses and in really excellent condition. I think they were demo frames, displayed in a optometry office. I've never seen a frame by Whitney before, at least not that I can recall, and I have to say, I think they were ahead of their time. The lenses are a lower height that other frames produced around this time and in these materials. The tops are a redwood zyl with a nice
luster and grain pattern. The chassis is gold-filled and has great details on the rims and bridge. The hinges are nice and tight, no wobble and all the screws are tested and working properly. The temples are
aluminum in a gold chrome finish and how about those ''W'' rivet shields? Really great stuff here. The nose pads are clean and smooth and the temple tips are still clear, unusual for this vintage of frame, no matter how well-preserved. Fantastic frames, ready for lenses and years of service!

Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on maker and adjustment. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. I think these were demo frames. They have the ''ghost'' of the shop frame labels on the inside of the temples. It's really a ghost, just a slightly lighter place on the inside of the temples where the labels were and this isn't visible when worn, but I give the full report. Great frames, ready for lenses and years of fashionable service. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
