These classic silver wire rim oval eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''14K GF'' and the arms read ''FRAME MADE IN ENGLAND SAVILE ROW CE''. The markings mean the frame is 14 karat gold-filled. The glasses have a smooth, simple design with no engraving.
These saddle bridge ovals are handmade by Savile Row in London, England. Note the generous extension in the hinges, the smooth bridge and those great cable temples (other temples are also available), all nice details in a high quality frame. They come complete with a top-shelf Savile Row case and cleaning cloth Savile Row frames are some of the few frames in the world still made using a gold-filled finish, as opposed to a thinner, plated finish. There was a time most frames in the US and abroad were gold-filled, but no more. A gold-filled frame has a thicker coating of gold and this means they'll generally last longer than plated frames. (In the UK, they call the finish ''rolled gold'', but it's the same process we call ''gold-filling'' here in the US... layer upon layer of gold is mechanically pressure-applied to the base metal frame, resulting in the thicker gold coating. The silver finish, or ''white gold'' is pure rhodium applied over the gold finish.) They even carry a two-year warranty, double the length of most any manufacturer warranty. Great frames, ready for decades of fashionable service!
Wire rims are flexible, so there's possibility of some variation for your oval shape for this frame. Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary based on maker and adjustment. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. All frames are thoroughly inspected before leaving the Attic. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in mint condition. Note that the special order sizes and all of the covered temples are ordered from overseas and often made to order, which can take up to 6 weeks. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
If you have any questions about this pair of glasses or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to answer all questions promptly. Cable temple covers to fit these frames can be found here (1.3 traditional #6468) and here (1.5 heat shrink).
