These classic gold wire rim eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The arms are marked ''Numont 304 Titanium 12K GF 1/10 Made in Japan AO Renaissance 49-18-140'' and the glasses are otherwise unmarked. The markings mean the frame is 12 karat gold-filled. The bridge is engraved with beading and simple leaf pattern and the frame and temples are engraved with double dotted lines. These frames also come in silver (white gold) and ''antique'' gold.
This is a new frame made by the very first frame manufacturer in the United States - American Optical. This frame is from their recent line called ''Renaissance'', inspired by some of their old ones. This model is their Numont, named after their old frame of the same name. It's very nicely done. Great filigree throughout, top quality screws and detailing and the nose pads are quite similar to the old AO shell pads, very well-done. Note also the flex fittings to keep the lenses snug to the frame, just like the original AO ''Tri-Flex'' lens fittings used on their Numont and Rimway frames. The Renaissance line is mostly all titanium frame structure and then finished with real gold just like they did in the old days. These are actually 1/10 12K GF, extremely rare in a contemporary frame. Gold-filled finish tends to outlast contemporary finishes significantly, not to mention they look great. Superb frames, very well-made from the first maker in the U.S.A. and ready to go!
This style of frame allows for a variety of lens shapes. The top wire dictates the top edge of the lens and width, but the lower portion of the lens is sometimes worn rounded, angled like an octagon or sloped near the bridge and rounded on the outer edge. Visit with your optician for lens shape choices or work together to create your own!
There are two demo lens shapes available for this frame - model 304 is the more rectangular one and model 303 is more rounded. Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary based on maker and adjustment. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. They'll come with your choice of case, as shown above. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in mint condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
