CLASSIC VINTAGE GOLD AO FUL-VUE FRAMES

 SOLD

 Measurements

These classic gold wire rim vintage eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''FUL-VUE AO 1/10 12K GF S'' and the arms read ''AO 1/10 12K GF''. The markings mean the frame is 12 karat gold-filled. The bridge, frame and arms are all engraved with a ray and diagonal filigree.

Striking pair of American Optical Ful-Vue frames with their trademark hinge-top eyewire closure (nice design), stout '""American'' style hinges with the double barrels on the temple and nearly perfect nose pads, complete with the AO logo hiding on the pad backs. This is a true classic from American Optical and likely dates from the later 1930s or possibly middle 1940s. They're undoubtedly completely original, down to the AO screws, fully tested and working well, so lenses should be a straightforward proposition. An outstanding frame in really excellent condition.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. The typical style for this frame is a near-round lens often called a ''P3'' shape. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

These frames are truly in nearly mint condition. Stretching for a note, I'll mention that the left temple cable wrapping, the spiral coating of gold on the cables, has a slight opening in the spiral joint above the left ear. It's not worth mentioning, but I thought I should report something on this otherwise perfect pair of frames! I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
