CLASSIC VINTAGE GOLD AO 40 WINDSOR FRAMES
|
|
|
These classic gold round Windsor antique eyeglasses are in excellent condition and ready for your prescription lenses. The bridge is marked ''WINDSOR'' and
also show the American Optical gold-filled marking, indicating they're 12 karat
gold-filled, as were most from the period.

This is a real WINDSOR frame from American Optical. Windsor was their brand name for a round eye, saddle bridge frame and this is the quintessential model. The rims have their traditional black/dark burgundy covers in fantastic condition. They appear completely black in most lighting conditions, but on close inspection and with some backlight, you'll see it's a very dark
burgundy. The bridge has a concave front, making for a broad, comfortable surface in back. As with all my frames, the screws are tested and working well. The hinges give good resistance - no wobble or flop and the bridge back is smooth and clean.
The temples show no wear, even at the ears, and the bridge is smooth and clean. These frames are in excellent condition.

How
to measure for vintage frames. |
Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. This style is worn round, but can also be worn with nearly round lenses or other shapes. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. There are the usual adjustment markings at the bridge and hinges and some finish wear on the top edge of the bridge, typical for this style and minor stuff, but I give full disclosure. I'm picky about condition so there are no surprises and can honestly say these glasses are in excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
