CLASSIC CRISS YANK EYEGLASSES FRAMES

SOLD Limited stock still available in brown only.

 Measurements

THE BLACK ONES ARE GONE NOW... I STILL HAVE SOME FRAMES WITH THE DIAMOND RIVETS IN BROWN. (Click here to see the Criss brown tone... a very dark brown.)

These classic 1950s black eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription or sunglass lenses. The frame is stamped ''48 x 21'' and the arms read ''Criss U.S.A. NYLON 6''. The plastic has a nice sheen with no cracks, crazing or discoloration and the metal diamonds shine.

THIS FRAME IS NO LONGER MADE AS SHOWN. THEY'VE CHANGED THE RIVET FROM THE DIAMOND SHAPE TO A FLAT OVAL SHAPE. LIMITED STOCK OF THIS VERSION STILL AVAILABLE. MY VINTAGE DIAMOND YANK FRAMES WILL BE POSTED SOON.

This is the Criss Yank frame, still made today by Criss Optical out of Kansas. (See the Fitting page for more information on measuring.) Criss supplied frames to the US military and still does. Their frames are made of Nylon instead of the usual eyeglasses frame material, which is called ''Zyl'' plastic. Nylon is much, much more flexible than Zyl, which will bend to a point, but then breaks unless heated in a frame warmer. Nylon, on the other hand, can be nearly twisted into a pretzel without breaking!! It comes right back to the original shape, too! These frames are really tough stuff and they look good, too!

Also, check out the original pamphlet that came with Criss frames! It's my only copy, so it lives in the Attic eyeglasses museum of optical history and paraphernalia, so I'm hanging on to it, but print out a copy and keep it your glasses case or the medicine cabinet for old times sakes!

Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

Two notes about the Criss frames. First, my price is outstanding! Shop around and you'll find I'm not pulling your leg.  The other note is that the new version of this frame comes in many sizes, which I will happily obtain for you! (Photos of the new version will be available soon.)

I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises, even with new frames I offer. They're given a nice inspection before mailing. The Yank is truly a classic and makes a great pair of everyday glasses or very cool sunglasses.
