These classic gold wire rim oval antique eyeglasses are in mint condition and ready for your prescription lenses. The bridge is marked ''STEVENS & CO. SQ'' and the glasses are otherwise unmarked. The original tag tells us the frame is ''GUARANTEED 1/10 12K G.F." meaning it's 12 karat gold-filled, as are most from the period.
These glasses are antique unused stock, so they've never been worn or had lenses in them. Stevens and Company made marvelous frames and these are gorgeous, probably dating from before the turn of the century. The bridge is deep and broad, the temples have a great ''spring'' to them and the screws are completely without marring, a treat for me. Note the teardrop finials at the temple ends, nice touch. The hinges are nice and tight and the bridge is smooth and clean. These frames are in mint condition.
Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of oval shapes for this frame. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. I describe any flaws found while cleaning, but there are no problems to report with this pair. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and can honestly say these glasses are in mint condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
This frame is eligible for a complimentary vintage case. If you would like a case, please see the Best Case Scenario page! If you have any questions about this pair of glasses or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to answer all questions promptly.
