This is an American Optical P3 frame, very likely military issue dating from during or around World War II. The screws are all tested and working well - to my eye they're all the original AO screws, too, so this frame is probably completely original, including the regulation putty-colored nose pads. The lens width is more generous that most military issued P3 frames from the period and the temples are a generous length, too. The frame was found with lenses and if you'll remind me I'll send them since they could be used as a lens pattern. The hinges are nice and tight and the nose pads are smooth and clean.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. The typical style for this frame is a near-round lens often called a ''P3'' shape. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

These frames definitely saw some action, military or otherwise. They have adjustment markings and some finish wear in the typical places: the temples by the ears, the rims just below the bridge and the backs of the rims at the brow. Fully functional frames, very strong and ready to go.
