CLASSIC VINTAGE AO SIRMONT SPECIAL EDITION

 SOLD

 Measurements

These classic G-man Malcolm X vintage grey eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''22 AO 1/10 12K GF'', the frame is stamped ''46 F56'' and the arms read ''AMERICAN OPTICAL 5 3/4''. The markings mean the lower half of the frame is 12 karat gold-filled. The arms and brows have a nice sheen with no cracks, crazing or discoloration.

Wow. What great frames. This is the American Optical Sirmont model, but I've never seen this pattern. It's really incredible. The brows and temples are a grey on grey grained plastic and the metal chassis is white gold, so silver in color. Outstanding in every respect. The pads are original down to their ''AO'' imprint, the temples like new. They've been dismantled, cleaned, polished and checked, inside and out. The screws are all in working order, so lenses should be straightforward and the hinges are nice and tight.  Really super frames.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

There are typical adjustment marks at the hinges and pad arms, nothing at all unusual or visible. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
