CLASSIC VINTAGE AMBER WILLSON SAFETY SPECTACLES

 SOLD

 Measurements

These classic men's amber plastic vintage eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The frame is stamped ''44 22'' and the arms read ''WILLSON MADE IN U.S.A.''. The plastic has a nice sheen with no cracks, crazing or discoloration and the rectangular rivet shields shine.

Here's a pair of Willson ''safety spectacles'' complete with their hard cardboard box. (The box even contains the ''Packed by No. 4'' paper slip.) The glasses were likely made in the middle 1940s. They've been worn, but are in quite nice condition. Great silhouette, keyhole bridge, big comfortable bridge tabs and the cables are outstanding, plastic covers in place and completely intact, unusual. Together with the box, these are a fun find. The lenses are clear, non-Rx, non-prescription lenses with the Willson ''W'' etched in each lens, so if you're looking for a prop or costume piece, these could be the ones, though it's certainly worth noting they'll accept new lenses, sunglass or prescription. The hinges are nice and tight, the temples show no wear, even at the ears, and the bridge is smooth and clean. These frames are in really excellent condition.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

I describe any flaws found while cleaning, but there are no problems to report with this pair. (If you disagree with my assessment, send them back for a full refund including the shipping paid, too!) I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and can honestly say these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
