These classic ''G-man''
vintage eyeglasses are in mint condition and ready for your prescription lenses. The bridge is marked ''1/10 12K GF 20'', the frame is stamped ''46'' and the arms read ''Imperial 5 3/4 U.S.A.''. The markings mean the lower half of the frame is 12 karat gold-filled. The arms and brows have a nice sheen with no cracks, crazing or discoloration.

This frame was made by Imperial Optical out of Hialeah, Florida.
I date them from the middle 1950's, the real hey day of combination frames. They're unused vintage stock in mint condition and will arrive in their original paper frame envelope. That envelope will tell you these are the
''Kingsley'' model with plastic brows and temples, in what was called ''brownwood''. Brownwood frames generally were paired with a gold
chassis (the bridge and rims section of the frame) and these are paired exactly
as they should be. Sometimes I see combinations frames called ''nerd'' or ''geek'' glasses, but these really were the standard frame back in the 1950's and one like this, with the brownwood and the gold chassis, it was high-class eyewear, not just for atomic scientists and guys with bow-ties and pocket-protectors. I wear my own combination frames with pride and hope you will, too! These frames are in mint condition.

How
to measure for vintage frames. |
Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. I describe any flaws found while cleaning, but there are no problems to report with this pair. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and can honestly say these glasses are in mint condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
