CLASSIC VINTAGE TORSHEL GOLD AMBER RIM WINDSORS

 SOLD

 Measurements

These classic gold round Windsor antique eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''TORSHEL'' and the glasses are otherwise unmarked. Though not indicated by the markings, it's a good bet the frame is 12 karat gold-filled, as are most from the period. Another indicator is the lack of any corrosion or greening.

I've handled a couple TORSHEL frames and this pair are the best I've seen by far. They probably date from the hey day of Windsor style frames in the middle 1920s and the covers are a nice darker translucent amber in super shape. The bridge is flawless, no finish wear at all, unusual for a saddle bridge. The temples are the traditional flat, non-filgreed variety as was used on most all Windsor style frames and the hinges are nice tight. The screws are tested and working well and the slots are even nice - no marring. The TORSHEL model used pins to hold their covers to the frames near the hinges and they're looking good, too. Wonderful frames. The hinges are nice and tight and the bridge is smooth and clean. These frames are in really excellent condition.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. This style is worn round, but can also be worn with nearly round lenses or other shapes. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

There's very light temple wear at the ears and a 0.75 mm cover nick, left rim, back side, at about 2 o'clock viewed from the back, both notes are not visible when worn and both very minor, but I give full disclosure of everything found while cleaning and checking my frames. I'm picky about condition so there are no surprises and can honestly say these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
