CLASSIC VINTAGE GOLD SHURON RIMWAY
|
|
| These classic gold wire rim vintage eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''SHURON 1/10 12K GF'', the frame is stamped ''SHURSET FUL-VUE RIMWAY F 46 LONG'' and the arms read ''1/10 12K GF''. The markings mean the frame is 12 karat gold-filled. The frame is engraved with an alternating trapezoid pattern and the arms have an alternating trapezoid pattern.

This is a nice Rimway frame from Shuron Optical, probably from the early to middle 1950s and in nice shape. This was an innovative design at the time, the single bar accross the bridge. You can tell it's an earlier one because there are two parallel lines on the top edge of the bridge bar, a nice design element that also offers added strength. It's a classic, very smooth and simple. It's worth noting that this is one of the widest lens widths offered in a Rimway dating from before the 1960s, so if you're looking for something gold-filled (thicker than plating used from the middle 1960s onward) and something that would have been worn by someone with a larger head, frames with a 46 mm lens are good candidates. The lenses are non-Rx on top and light to medium reading Rx on the bottom, so if you're looking for a prop or costume piece, these could be the ones. The hinges are nice and tight and the nose pads are smooth, with a nice mother of pearl finish These frames are in really excellent condition.

This style of frame allows for a variety of lens
shapes and it's quite possible I can provide you with an alternative pattern,
such as the traditional perimetric or ''octagonal'' shape. The top wire and hole spacing dictates the top edge of the lens and width, but the lower portion of the lens is sometimes worn rounded, angled like an octagon or sloped near the bridge and rounded on the outer edge. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair!
One other note about Rimway temples is that the hinge section wraps back toward
the ear, adding about 1/4'' (5 mm) to the effective temple length. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. There are typical adjustment markings at the hinges and pad arms, but nothing in any way out of the ordinary or notable. These are nice frames, ready to go and I do think you'll be pleased. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
