These classic gold wire rim vintage eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''AO 1/10 12K GF'', the frame is stamped ''AO RIMWAY FUL-VUE D 44R'' and the arms read ''AO 1/10 12K GF''. The markings mean the frame is 12 karat gold-filled. The bridge is engraved with a dot and twist design, the frame is engraved with an alternating ray and diagonal pattern and the arms have an alternating ray and diagonal pattern.

What a great pair of Rimway frames. These are the quintessential Rimway, made by American Optical, these dating from the late 1940s into the 1950s. Their model had some outstanding features: the filigreed, diamond-shape washers on the outer lens screws, the elbow-arm behind the outer lens screws, and the AO ''Tri-Flex'' lens fittings (those little leaf springs that press against the edge of the lenses to keep them snug). The nose pads are
pristine, too. All the screws are tested and working well, so lenses should be straightforward, plus, they're all the original American Optical screws. These frames are in outstanding condition and it's also worth noting that with a 44 lens, they're among the widest available in a real vintage Rimway and the temples are a nice generous length, too.
The hinges are nice and tight, the temples show no wear, even at the ears, and the nose pads are like new, with a nice mother of pearl finish. These frames are in really excellent condition.

How
to measure for vintage frames. |
This style of frame allows for a variety of lens shapes. The top wire and hole spacing dictates the top edge of the lens and width, but the lower portion of the lens is sometimes worn rounded, angled like an octagon or sloped near the bridge and rounded on the outer edge. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. I describe any flaws found while cleaning, but there are no problems to report with this pair. (If you disagree with my assessment, send them back for a full refund including the shipping paid, too!) I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
