CLASSIC VINTAGE GOLD BROWN RIM AO WINDSORS

 SOLD

 Measurements

These classic gold brown rim round Windsor antique eyeglasses are in excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''AOC WINDSOR'' followed by the AO gold-fill marking and the glasses are otherwise unmarked. The AO mark means the frames are 12 karat gold-filled, as were most from the period.

This is a traditional American Optical Windsor model frame, likely dating from the middle to later 1920s. The rim covers are a traditional chestnut brown and the temples are probably original to the frames, this based on the fine caps at each tip and the fine cable diameter. The striking detail about this particular pair is the bridge, adjusted into a unique curl by a jeweler or optician with a nice touch. This adjustment allowed for a broader bridge to be narrowed and in an attractive, creative way. Nice touch on some great frames, ready to go! The hinges are nice and tight and the bridge is smooth and clean. These frames are in excellent condition.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. This style is worn round, but can also be worn with nearly round lenses or other shapes. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

There's light finish wear on inside of temples at the ears, minor and not visible when worn, but I give the full report. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
