These classic gold wire rim antique eyeglasses are mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''SR 14KT RG'' and the arms read ''FRAME MADE IN ENGLAND SAVILE ROW ce''. The markings mean the frame is 14 karat gold-filled. It was made several years ago when the brand was produced by a family-owned business. The brand is now owned by a corporation in England and while they may make something similar, these specific frames are no longer produced by the new company.
Note the strong bridge construction, the generous extension in their special, center-set hinges, the fine finish, the clear nose pads, all nice details. If it looks familiar, it should - it's a really famous frame. This model was worn by John Lennon, among others. You'll see there are several frame sizes offered and several temple options, too. This was a newly minted frame made in the United Kingdom. They made glasses the same way since the 1930's, even using some of the same old machines. In the UK they use the term ''rolled gold'' instead of ''gold filled'', but the process is the same and the resulting layer of gold is thicker. Note that because the company has changed hands, these frames do not carry any warranty. Great frames, ready for fashionable service!
Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. This style is worn in the panto shape, but can also be worn with round lenses or other shapes. Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
Cable temple covers to fit these frames can be found here (1.5 heat shrink). If you have any questions about this pair of glasses or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to answer all questions promptly.
