These classic gold wire rim eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''SR 14KT RG'' and the temples read ''SAVILE ROW FRAME MADE IN ENGLAND 47 - 20 - 145''. The markings mean the frame is 14 karat gold-filled.
This is a quintessentially British ''Panto'' model frame, what we'd call a ''Ful-Vue'' or ''P3'' here in the United States, but these are made by Savile Row in London, England, hence the name ''Panto''. Note the high bridge and hinges, the strong bridge construction, the generous extension in the hinges, all nice details in a very high quality frame. You'll see there are a variety of frame sizes offered and several temple options, too. Though they're not shown here, this same model is available in a silver (rhodium) finish. Savile Row frames are among the few frames in the world still made using a gold-filled finish, as opposed to the thinner, plated finish. There was a time most frames in the US and abroad were gold-filled, but no more. A gold-filled frame has a thicker coating of gold and this means they'll generally last longer than plated frames. (In the UK, they call the finish ''rolled gold'', but it's the same process we call ''gold-filling'' here in the US... layer upon layer of gold is mechanically pressure-applied to the base metal frame, resulting in the thicker gold coating.) They even carry a two-year warranty, twice the length of most any manufacturer warranty. Great frames, ready for decades of fashionable service!
Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. As noted, these frames are available in a variety of sizes and configurations. Skull temples are available in 140 mm (5 1/2 inches), 145 mm (5 3/4 inches) and 150 mm (6 inches) and their cable temples come in 160 mm (6 3/8 inches) and 170 mm ( 6 3/4 inches).
I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises, inspecting each frame in detail before it leaves the Attic. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
Cable temple covers to fit these frames can be found here (1.5 heat shrink). If you have any questions about the Savile Row Panto or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to answer all questions promptly.
