These classic gold rectangular saddle bridge eyeglasses are in mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''AO VARSITY'' and the arms read ''42-24-150 107-S MADE IN JAPAN''.
These beautiful frames are from American Optical (AO), the first manufacturer of eyeglasses in the United States. AO all but stopped making frames, but these are recently minted, a real treat. They're quite well-made and they sport some of the classic features of the best American frames: strong, gracefully curved hinges, a broad, comfortable bridge and squared, spatula-tipped straight temples. They use a clear Zyl coating on the inside of each temple tip and on the back of the bridge, nice for longevity and comfort. Wonderful frames, very high quality and from a great maker. This same line of frames was also available other shapes and colors: round, octagon and oval, all in gold or gold, limited stock.
Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw. As with most any saddle bridge frame, the bridge width can be adjusted depending upon the wearer. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in mint condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
If you have any questions about this pair of glasses or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to answer all questions promptly.
