These classic gold rounded eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''AO Varsity'' and the arms read ''CE 37 - 24 - 145 108-S MADE IN JAPAN''. The finish is a rich, yellow gold.

These beautiful frames are from American Optical (AO), the first manufacturer of eyeglasses in the United States. AO all but stopped making frames, but these are recently minted, a real treat. They're quite well-made, sporting some of the classic features of the best American wire frames: strong, gracefully curved hinges, a broad, comfortable bridge and straight temples with spatula tips. They come in two temple lengths, each with clear Zyl coating on the inside surfaces of the tips for comfort and long wear. This same Zyl coat is used on the back of the bridge, successfully addressing one of the most challenging spots on any saddle-bridge frame. Wonderful frames from a great maker.

The rim shape shown here is not completely round, but they're not the old-style flat oval, either. It's worth noting that I find this same lens shape in many of my old, antique windsors, so this shape is not unusual. This same line of frames is also available other shapes: octagon, oval and even a broad rectangular shape, all in silver or gold.

Temples are measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend vary.  Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

As with most any Windsor frame, the bridge width can be adjusted depending upon the wearer. They'll come with a top-quality AO case and cleaning cloth, as pictured below.  I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises. Everything is inspected in detail before careful packaging and prompt shipment. These really are wonderful frames and they'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
