These classic gold round Windsor eyeglasses are brand new, mint condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''14 KT GF'' and the arms read ''SAVILE ROW FRAME MADE IN ENGLAND''. The markings mean the frame is 14 karat gold-filled, one of the only frames still made today using the old manufacturing processes of gold-filling instead of plating.
This is a newly minted frame from the Savile Row line of the Algha Works in the United Kingdom. They've been making glasses the same way they've done since the 1930's. They call this model the ''Warwick''. In the UK they use the term ''rolled gold'' instead of ''gold filled'', but the process is the same and the resulting layer of gold is much thicker and generally lasts longer than plated frames made today. The bridge has a nice concave front, making for a broad back surface comfortable on the nose. The Savile Row cable temples are of fine quality and have a very gentle spring, easy on the ear. The material and workmanship of Savile Row frames rival the quality of the real vintage frames and this is no easy feat! The frame is also available in silver. Temples are available in both cable and skull. In the skull model, we can make arrangements for other tip colors besides the black shown in the photo. Note that the special order sizes are ordered from overseas, which can take up to 6 weeks. In any combination, whether one of the in-stock models or a special-order size or configuration, these are great frames ready for many years of service.
Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. This style is typically worn round, but can also be worn with nearly round lenses or other shapes. Temples are measured to their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.
Cable temple covers to fit these frames can be found here (1.5 heat shrink). If you have any questions about Savile Row windsors or anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I try to answer all questions promptly.
