This frame isn't marked for a maker, but it looks just like a frame made by the Algha Works in London, so that's my educated guess. Since they're not marked on the bridge, as Algha ordinarily does, I'd suppose the material is 14 karat gold plate and quite a nice finish. They're finished with a tortoise-shell (plastic, not real shell) cover on the temples, what they call ''bespoke'' in England. Very classic United Kingdom design. The cables on Algha temples are lovely things to behold, finished with a comfortable finial. The nose pads are clear and clean and the screws are tested and working properly throughout, so lenses should be a straightforward proposition. Wonderful spectacles, ready for many years of service! The hinges are nice and tight, the temples show no wear, even at the ears, and the nose pads are like new. These frames are in really excellent condition.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. The typical style for this frame is a near-round lens often called a ''P3'' shape. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

I describe any flaws found while cleaning, but there are no problems to report with this pair. (If you disagree with my assessment, send them back for a full refund including the shipping paid, too!) I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
