CLASSIC VINTAGE GOLD AOC WINDSOR FRAMES

 SOLD

 Measurements

These classic gold round Windsor vintage eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''AOC'' and the glasses are otherwise unmarked. Though not indicated by the markings, I'm certain the frame is 12 karat gold-filled, as are most from the period and all AO gold frames.

This is a truly wonderful Windsor frame, likely dating from the early to middle 1920s and made by the American Optical Company, headquartered in Southbridge, Massachusetts. The frame must be their top-of-line model, as it's remarkably strong. The bridge has a nice concave front, making for a broad, comfortable surface to rest upon the nose and the finish is outstanding throughout. The bridge arms and the back corners of the bridge are probably what strikes me most about this frame: they're remarkably strong and stout, very well-done. The rims are equally strong, thicker than most any frame I've found from this period. The hinges give good resistance and the screws are tested and working well, so lenses should be straightforward. The temples are a generous length and have a very gentle spring in the cables, not too tight. These are truly wonderful frames, ready to wear for a good, long life of service.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. This style is worn round, but can also be worn with nearly round lenses or other shapes. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

The temples as shown have some finish wear at the cables, inner sides. I'm thorough about condition so there are no surprises and these frames are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
