CLASSIC VINTAGE SILVER AO CORTLAND ROUND FRAMES

 SOLD

 Measurements

These classic silver round wire rim antique eyeglasses are in really excellent condition and ready for prescription lenses or sunglasses. The bridge is marked ''AO CORTLAND'', the pads are marked ''AO 10K PADS'' and the glasses are otherwise unmarked. The markings mean the frame is 12 karat gold-filled. The bridge, frame and arms are all engraved with a dot twist pattern.

These are a truly amazing pair of American Optical Cortland frames dating from the middle 1930's. The finish is in such wonderful shape throughout and the pads shine like little mirrors. Even the finish of the sides of the pads is outstanding, sometimes an issue on solid pads, but not here. Very well-done frame. They're kitted out with matching skull temples with spoon tips, the style most seen with the Cortland model. Great frames, ready to wear or display. The hinges are nice and tight, the temples show no wear, even at the ears, and the nose pads are like new, with a nice mother of pearl finish. These frames are in really excellent condition.

How to measure for vintage frames.

Wire rims are flexible, so lenses can be made to a variety of shapes for this frame. This style is worn round, but can also be worn with nearly round lenses or other shapes. Remember that temples are always measured their full length, hinge to tip, as though they were straightened out. Why? Because they're adjustable, so measurements to the bend will vary based on who wore the frame. Also remember that temples can be changed, so if this length isn't quite right for you, let me know - I may have a matching pair! Lens and bridge measurements are from lens edge to lens edge. Hinge to hinge is measured from screw to screw.

Very light adjustment markings at the bridge and hinges. Whoever fitted them originally (and their original owner) was careful and kind to them. I'm picky about condition so there are no surprises and can honestly say these glasses are in really excellent condition. They'll make great everyday glasses or some very cool sunglasses.
